Brain renin–angiotensin system in the nexus of hypertension and aging
Por: Amy C Arnold, Patricia E Gallagher y Debra I Diz. Hypertension Research (2013) 36, 5–13
Aging is associated with an imbalance in sympathetic and parasympathetic outflow to cardiovascular effector organs.
This autonomic imbalance contributes to the decline in cardiovagal baroreceptor reflex function during aging, which allows for unrestrained activation of the sympathetic nervous system to negatively impact resting systolic blood pressure and its variability. Further, impaired baroreflex function can contribute to the development of insulin resistance and other features of the metabolic syndrome during aging through overlap in autonomic neural pathways that regulate both cardiovascular and metabolic functions. Relationship between inflammation and microalbuminuria in prehypertension
Por: J F Navarro-González, C Mora, M Muros, J García, J Donate y V Cazaña. Journal of Human Hypertension (2013) 27,
119–125
Inflammation is a pathogenic factor for target-organ damage (TOD) in hypertension. This study examined the
relationship between inflammatory parameters and urinary albumin excretion (UAE) in prehypertension. A total of 65
prehypertensive subjects (blood pressure (BP) 120–139/80–89?mm?Hg) and 26 healthy volunteers with BP <120/80?mm?Hg were included. High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), and serum and urinary tumor necrosis
factor-a (TNF-a) were measured as inflammatory markers. [publicada: 23 de enero 2013]

Early life stress and blood pressure levels in late adulthood
Por: H Alastalo, K Räikkönen, A-K Pesonen, C Osmond, D J P Barker, K Heinonen, E Kajantie y J G Eriksson. Journal of
Human Hypertension (2013) 27, 90–94.
Severe stress experienced in early life may have long-term consequences on adult physiological functions. We studied
the long-term effects of separation on blood pressure levels in non-obese subjects who were separated temporarily in
childhood from their parents during World War II (WWII). The original clinical study cohort consists of people born
during 1934–1944 in Helsinki, Finland. This substudy includes 1361 non-obese subjects (body mass index <30 kgm-2). Of these, 192 (14.1%) had been evacuated abroad during WWII.
